This is for
… the toddler who refuses to learn to read music and develops perfect pitch.
… the little girl who swallows her nerves before going on stage, worried she isn’t as good as her peers who practice two hours a day - or so their moms claim.
… the budding musician who protests aloud when their parents insist they play Bach, Mozart - oh what about Debussy, that one is different but nice - when they have dinner guests.
… the wannabe scholar who goes into music academia to see if schooling can redeem their self-worth shredded through performance.
… the grown-ass woman who knows she has something, that she is “good at music” - whatever that means - but can never feel truly confident with her playing.

They are all me. This is for all these versions of me and all the kids going to their lessons week after week, who dread the practice, the judgment, and making mistakes, and for all the grownups who stopped playing instruments and wish they played something every now and then.

Because – guess what? We can all make music using the very tools from those crushing days and years under music schooling.

Music that helps us figure out what we want to say. If I can do it, then you, too, can make music.
